Major Update @ Phil, thoughts please.... Continued

I decided to do some more 'broad' researching and thinking, I also spoke to my uncle (David from the first year) today whilst helping him out with a few of his ideas also. I really love discussing ideas with people, especially people I know and trust, you can really overcome stupid ideas and get to the juicy stuff very quickly. You can also tell what works just by feeding off their reactions. So this was very beneficial. We were talking about an idea of taking a character from some sort of disney cartoon for example and making it into a realistic version of that character.

For example I am looking at Maleficent from sleeping beauty:

I could transcribe this evil childs cartoon character, into something that is realistic and far more evil and twisted. Someone that would truly be evil in the eyes of an 'adult' for example, but also I could impliment a 'gothic' feel into her.

Of course, I could also take a good character and turn the design on its head to make it evil for example. But I am very fascinated with taking an evil childs cartoon character and making a realistic version of it.

Thoughts? Opinions? I hope I have made clear what I am thinking here :-]

Thanks.

Hi Jon,

I'm not sure about the 'meat' available to you here; after Kiiro Blade, this feels like a bit of a backward step; I'm not suggesting that it wouldn't make for a pleasurable and satisfying project for you personally, but I'm not convinced it's got enough to sustain a major project in terms of context and investigation; indeed, it starts to feel like a 'model-making' project - however complex the model - in other words, an entirely mimetic relationship to existing source material; there's no room for you in it: you need a world, Jon... I'll give it some thought and post accordingly...

... i do like the idea of you doing a villainess, however - with some more overt fantasy elements; maybe you could start by looking at goddesses of death, female demons in folklore, witches, banshees etc...

more later no doubt...

Hi Phil, I see what you mean, though in terms of personal goals for this project I am sure you know how important it is for me to push my technical skills to that next level now. Of course, I want to do this in as professional a manner as possible, and I want the character to be worth spending the time on. Perhaps we could have a discussion at some point? When are you at Uni next? Thanks.
